The analog verses digital 24 track recorder comparisons took place over the course of three separate recording sessions. During these sessions, three different styles of music were recorded using both modular digital 24 track and 2 inch analog 24 track recorders. Acoustic Folk, R&B and Metal Rock styles were chosen because they include a majority of the musical instruments that make up popular music. After hearing the following tracks the listener should have a better knowledge of the way analog and digital recorders effect the sonic quality of everything from a Marshal guitar amp to an 808 bass drum.
For tracks 3, 4 and 5 both the analog and digital 24 tracks were mixed to DAT. For track 6, the analog 24 track was mixed to analog 2 track reel to reel creating a totally analog domain verses totally digital domain comparison
